From inner city activist to Presidential Scholar

Jamayrah Moore | Communication and Mathematics | Class of 2019

Jamayrah Moore, ’19, is an exceptional student and community activist. Her passion and enthusiasm for her hometown of Trenton, N.J., has propelled her to co-found “My Life Movement,” an organization with a mission to encourage and motivate the masses of Trenton.

“We are striving to create a safer environment for our generation and generations to come,” she said. The non-profit, founded in 2013, runs educational programming, offers volunteer opportunities, holds forums on diversity and tolerance, and hosts community events such as a coat drive each December.

In choosing a college, Jamayrah (known affectionately as Jammy on campus) looked for a place that aligned with her love of volunteering and helping others. “Service is really important at SEU,” says Moore, who attends SEU through the prestigious Presidential scholarship.

“I wanted an environment that encouraged serving others and that’s exactly what SEU does.”

Jammy, who is also a math tutor on campus, has garnered accolades for her work such as an N.J. State and General Assembly award for Outstanding Community Service.
